You can get a virtual education on filmmaking of the eclectic sort by going to the nice blog called film studies are free, which is dedicated to the public domain.  It might be a bit too academic for many, and probably irrelevant, perhaps harmful to creative filmmakers and writers, but this blog contains many fine examples of the academic discourse that permeates the conversation of film aficionados who are going for their Ph.D.’s or have their Ph.D.’s.  I already have mine. 

 If nothing else, this blog may help you decide whether or not you wish to pursue a Ph.D. in the humanities.  And if you happen to plan a career in academia, it provides you with examples of what humanities scholars of a particular bent do in their ample leisure time (once they have tenure, anyway).
